Muslims are found in every nation with the possible exception of Iceland. In some nations they have had a very long presence. In the Americas it dates back to at least the time of Columbus. In North America there were Muslims before the Revolutionary war. They also settled in parts of Canada. The TV Shows "Little Mosque on the Prairie" was based on an actual Mosque in Alberta, Canada. The earliest Mosque in the USA, built specifically as a Mosque was built in Ross, ND. There are older Mosques, but they were built in preexisting buildings.. At one time the Muslim population in ND was quite large. But over the years many left North Dakota or moved to the Larger cities of Bismarck and Fargo. The Old Mosque fell into disrepair and by the 1970s pretty much collapsed. A new Mosque was built to replace it. It can accommodate 8 Muslims for prayer. SOURCE

Indonesia, the largest Islamic nation. the country with the largest numbers of Muslims. Nearly 1/4 of the World's Muslims live in Indonesia. Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, built 1961-1975 in the former site of Wilhelmina Park and Prins Hendrik Citadel. It is located next to the Roman Catholic Cathedral (bulit 1901) and was designed by a Christian architect, Frederick Silaban, to symbolise religious harmony in Indonesia. It is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, capable of taking up to 100,000 people. Al-Manar Mosque in Kudus - Central Java, built in 1549 by Sunan Kudus (Ja'far Shodiq), then extended in 1845 and 1987. This mosque integrates a 20m high ancient Hindu watchtower as its minaret, and a Balinese temple gate as its main entrance. Traditional Javanese Muslims believed seven pilgrimages here during the Gerebeg Besar (Idul Adha) festival is worth one complete pilgrimage to Mecca. Kudus, which means "holy" in Arabic, is the only town in Indonesia with an Arabic name. Banten Lama Grand Mosque west of Jakarta, built in 1566 by Sultan Maulana Yusuf, shows a mix of Hindu, Chinese, and Islamic influences. Unique characteristics include five-tiered roof made from teak-wood, and eight-sided minaret built in 1590, which once also served as a lighthouse. The minaret was designed by Hendrik Lucas Cardeel, a Dutch deserter who converted to Islam. Pictures SOURCE

Islam in Japan, Japan is quite interesting as it has had very few Muslims migrating to Japan, but there is a large number of Japanese Muslims. Japanese had accepted Islam and reverted with very little contact with the Islamic world. The spread of Islam in Japan like in Indonesia has been therough the people converting not from Muslims migrating into the nation. The biggest surge of converts began in the 1970s and is continuing. SOURCEAn active Japanese youth group is also instrumental in the spread of Islam in Japan. SOURCE MASJIDs in JAPAN SOURCEThe largest Mosque in Tokyo
