All of these photos and descriptions were found on Pinterest. I have been amazed at the collection of objects that can be found there.
Woman’s costume of Iron Age (in Europe, usually considered 1200 BC to 400 AD), discovered 1879. The Huldre Fen woman wore a lambskin cape next to the skin, and she wore another over the upper part of her body as an outer garment. A Tartan skirt was fastened to the body with a leather strap and a head-scarf or kerchief of the same material, fastened by a bird-bone pin, covered her head and neck.
Black Death
Scientists have successfully recreated the genetic code of the bacterium Yersinia pestis that caused the devastating Black Death that swept Europe during the 14th century, killing an estimated 50 million people. The research, published in the journal Nature was conducted using DNA drilled from teeth belonging to medieval corpses buried under what is now the Royal Mint in London. It also suggests that the 14th-century disease was the first plague pandemic in history and is related to all current strains of plague present in the world. It is hoped that the techniques developed in this work can be used to study the genomes of many other ancient pathogens. The excavation was carried out by Museum of London Archaeology and the human remains are now part of the Museum of London’s Osteology collection. (HistoryExtra.com)
