A WW2 era brat and like many in the era I grew up fatherless, but we had a gold star in the window. Like many of my friends I never saw my father again after he went into the Army.
Except for a brief 3 years living in New Britain, Ct I grew up in the Northern part of the state not very far from Granville Massachusetts Small towns in and near the Tunxis State Forest and alongside the Metacomet Trail. Guess I always been a country boy and love the woods.
I guess my first love was flying. As a kid I hung around a local airport whenever I could begging rides and flying lessons in exchange for doing odd jobs. Got my first actual lessons at 14 and soloed at 16. Learned to fly a plane before I learned to drive a car.
I was born and raised Roman Catholic went the whole 9 yards. CYO later Kof C entered the Seminary at 18 lasted one semester and decided the Priesthood was not for me. Went back to my first love and applied for the aviation cadet program and somehow got accepted.
My flying career was short lasting went down in my third year. After a year in the hospital I was found no longer physically eligable for flying status but was allowed to enlist at an enlisted rank. Spent 4 more years in the AF left Catholicism and after exploring a few Protestant denominations became a Fundemental Evangelist. (Assembly of God) began a combination of careers working as a design Draftsman, a Psychology student pursuing my Ph.D and a semi full time minister going over to the Islamic Nations as a Missionary. After 15 years I ended up as an actual Psychologist, but more interested in Physiological Psych research than clinical psych so to make an affordable income I worked for the States of Texas and Louisiana in various roles while still preaching in the Mideast and North Africa a few months each year. By the time I was 45 years old I gave up on Christianity and became an atheist with occasional lapses to agnosticism.
In the mean time My Children had grown, My first wife passed away and I married my second wife. Lost her after 17 years,
At the age of 65 I accepted Islam and a year later married my current wife.
Although I am no longer very active in my hobbies, I still make periodic attempts at them I consider my hobbies to be:
Astronomy
Light Plane flying
Studying Languages
Herpetology (I'm a snake lover)
Raising and training horses (My wife introduced me to that, she has been raising horses for over 30 years, she married me to get free labor)
