The purpose of this thread is to discuss ways in which we can set aside our differences and simply discuss the reasons we all believe in the existence of God.
For starters we can acknowledge it is possible to disagree without malice or anger.
Some of the reasons I believe can probably be understood only by theists. Such as:
1. Personal experiences
2. A feeling of communication
3. The simple fact we exist
4. Because we have the ability to believe, that may seem as not evidence, but I feel there has to be a reason we have the desire to believe. It seems to be an innate belief and probably the first belief we become aware of.
Some other reasons I believe, have some degree of physical evidence, such as:
1. Every culture seems to have some history of Prophets that spoke with God
2. While there are many religions they all seem to have a common origin
3. All religions have some form of oral and/or written scripture
4. Most if not all religions have a "Special Person" who is believed to have had a very close connection with God
While no evidence is proof; a large amount of similar evidence gives a starting point to see a reason to believe. We as theists can share our reasons for believing and by doing so establish a preponderance of evidence and also share with each other the reality of God in our lives.
I have been too close to death too often to not believe there was intervention that spared my life for a purpose.
Perhaps some one will start a related thread along the line of "God in my life"--Hint Maggie that could be a section by itself.
