Wow, they are gorgeous. I really like the last one, the atlas moth and I also like the hummingbird moth. What distinguishes moths from butterflies? Or is that a really stupid question?

You can't tell in that picture but the Atlas moth the world's largest moth. I think the record is about 11 inches from the tips of the wings. Once it reaches adulthood it lives about a week, in which time it does not even eat. All it does is try to breed.
You can identify the difference because moths rest with their wings spread but butterfilies keep their wings raised.
