Tell us about your day here in this thread! I'll start.
I am sitting at home hacking and feeling sorry for myself. I have bronchitis. For once in my life I didn't ignore symptoms and went to the doctor right away, so I think I have headed off the worst of it. Still, he gave me a spray to use that has made my nose bleed. And bleed and bleed. I look like a casualty of war. And I didn't feel like going to the store, even though I was out to pick up my prescriptions. Now I have nothing good to eat.
That is how my day has been!

That is how my day has been! It has been unbearably hot week. Especially since we had witer weather until late May and a very cool spring and early summer with days seldom reaching 60 and the nights in the 40s and 30s. Now all of a sudden the temps have been near 90 and yesterday hit 95. Today is a miserable hot day. But, then again it is just a matter of a few weeks before we start seeing snow. Then I can complain about the cold again.

We have had rain. Nothing but rain for the entire summer. It has been hot but rarely as hot as you are describing. I have never seen anything quite like it.

Just found out I need to have a talk with my youngest twin. Against my advice, he moved out several months ago into a house with his girlfriend. They were planning to get married. Well, 3-4 months ago Brandon's best friend and coworker needed a place to stay. Now he's been living there since then and Brandon's g/f has become exceedingly unhappy. Apparantly, Brandon and his friend are ganging up on her to make her quit complaining. She no longer wants to marry him because he is "not marriage material", and Brandon is leaning toward wanting her to move out and he and his friend to be roommates. My twins still tell daddy on each other hehehe.
Brandon has also recently mentioned to me the thought of moving back home until he can get more stable as I recommended in the beginning. If any of my kids would ever say, "Dad I'm going to take your advice" instead of "Dad you were right", it would make me so happy.

Oh dear! I guess no matter what, most of what we learn we learn the hard way.

So, you ask or would, if our brand new forum had readers, why am I up at 2:02 a.m.? Well, I got up to check on my precious Leo, who recently developed diabetes. I realized that I hadn't seen him for awhile before I went to bed and found him under a table, lethargic and not very responsive. It scared the heck out of me. If I weren't in such a bad way myself I probably would have gotten dressed and taken him to the emergency vet clinic. Even though he is acting much more normally now, I will still try to get him in to see his vet tomorrow. I don't need the worry I will otherwise have.

I think so. Because the cough medicine makes me feel so bad, I stopped taking it, so now I still have to deal with a cough. But that is still better than being a zombie. My vet opens in about 10 minutes so I am getting ready to call to see if he can fit Leo in.
In other words, it isn't even quite 8 a.m. and my day is shaping up to be more running around than I want.

I moved to Alabama in 2003 with 4 cats--my two elderly (18 years) beasts and two young adults, Leo and Olivia. Olivia had been a barn kitten who had never taken well to captivity. She ran away about a month after we got there. I looked for her for a year. No luck. I did learn every inch of Montgomery, though.
Leo was the most beautiful kitten. The vet in the state I had lived in prior to moving to Alabama would try to place kittens. I met him when I took my old cat in for some reason. He and Olivia were in a cat cage together where he did all sorts of cute kitten things for the onlookers. He was Mr. Purrsonality and, when I first saw him, about 8 weeks old. I wasn't the least bit worried about him-- no kitten as pretty as he was would go unadopted. Well, about a month later I had occasion to stop in and there he was. Growing quickly out of his kitten cuteness and still caged. I couldn't stand it. I took him and his cellmate, Olivia, because I figured that the two of them would play with each other and leave my elderly cats alone. That is pretty much how it worked out.
Now, 12 years later he is sick. I suppose once in 12 years is ok. But diabetes is a bad disease in anyone and it is very hard to regulate in cats. (The patriarch of my cat family died because of its complications.) They need the old fashioned insulin (PZI) that was mostly derived from pork or beef. It was replaced some years ago by insulins made from human derived hormones. Humans do fine on them. Animals not so much. The old fashioned insulins are available again (I had had to use a compounding pharmacy to supply it for my old cat) and I suppose we will have to switch to them.
Something that is available today that wasn't when my old cat was still alive is a home blood testing kit for cats and dogs. This is critical! If you don't know the animal's blood sugar values, you cannot regulate his insulin except by guess. That is dangerous.
So, I am sitting here hoping to hear good news (the vet said she would call this afternoon with another report). Right now that would mean that his temperature has returned to normal and that he is eating. We will see.

I hope it turns out okay.
The cat we have is the first cat in 20 years we've had that didn't go off and get itself killed. We've had her for a long time and she is a survivor. And she is a small cat. But nevertheless she keeps all other dogs and cats out of our yard. She literally will attack a dog of any size on sight if it's in the yard. I can't believe she's not dead.
She has attacked our pit bull on several occasions. Our pit doesn't have a mean bone in her body but she will defend herself. How the dog has not killed the cat I don't know because the dog has won every fight. But neverthess one of these days the cat will be feeling it's oats and run all the way across the room and attack the dog and the fight will be on. Fortunately, because the dog is trained she will stop when I say "no" but I've seen the entire cat's body in her mouth before, all she had to do was bit down. This cat must have like 100 lives or more. But I've yet to see a stray dog stand to fight her, or a cat for that matter and she is little. Her name is "Tiny" and she is not mean towards people at all.
I will really miss this cat when it's gone.

Your cat is fortunate to be alive. Some cats are too brave and too aggressive for their own good. I had a vet tell me once that she didn't think cats see size. Dachshund? Pit Bull? All the same to a cat. JST, you continue to surprise me. I wouldn't have figured you for a Pit Bull-- no way, no how.
Well, when I got home a few minutes ago (from Mass and then I picked up a few things at the store), I had a message from the vet. Leo is not really better except that his temperature has come down a little. She has added another antibiotic to his regimen and is giving him subcutaneous fluids to keep him hydrated. It took 10 years for my other cat to reach this state after diagnosis. Why oh why is Leo there after a couple of months? Anyway, I won't be bringing him home tomorrow. They want to watch him for a few more days.
Still, I feel well enough to go back to work tomorrow. That is something.

She's the first one I've ever had. She's tied for first place with a Husky I use to have for the position of best dog I've ever had. It's just that with bigger dogs I find it's highly important they be properly trained.

Hehe here is a joke.
What a dog says.
"They feed me, take care of me, and love me. They must be god."
What a cat says.
"They feed me, take care of me, and love me. I must be god."

My day has been really fine so far. Working on mulching all of my garden beds. We have a nice summer to fall day with a slightly cool breeze. The air is clear with little to no humidity. You can see for miles.
