Please take it easy driving to Fargo tomorrow! No going off the road or any nonsense like that. You can stop worrying. It snowed more than was expected. I am snowed in and won't get out of town until after the roads are plowed and they wont do that until it stops snowing. Called and cancelled my appointment.

I am glad from the safety aspect but sorry from the others. It would be so great to get your benefits situation finally resolved. But that really is a long way to go in bad weather.

The snow actually isn't too bad. but it is 40 miles before we get to the interstate and not being able to see were the road is, is not a smart thing to do. These back roads are poorly marked as it is and if you can not see the road you can end up out in the middle of a field thinking you are on the road. Or worse slide off a cliff when we get near Valley City.
Plus if it picks up could get stuck on the interstate again.
Actually it would be easier if the temp was below zero, cause then the snow would be hard ice crystal that blow off the road keeping the road clear.

Current Road conditions in North Dakota. I'm not going anywhere for a while. At least I have a good stock pile of coffee. It is still snowing. If you are planning to come to ND the state is virtually closed.

Well, it doesn't look like there is that much snow on the ground but your video does convey cold, real cold very well, indeed. Yes I could see the snow swirling around. I just put my space heater back on! The map was quite impressive too. All we have is rain (on the day I broke down and opened windows at home because the house was so stuffy) and 73F. It was forecast to go to 77F but I don't see that happening at this point. Not that I want anyone to feel bad, or anything. The Emerald Coast. The only pretty spot in the panhandle!

Austin to Jacksonville! That is a lonnnggg drive! Once you get past Tallahassee, I find I-10 the most enjoyable ride of any that I have ever had. Everyone else complains that it is boring but I love it. It is horse country and, if you get your timing right, you will be entertained by the mares and their foals for a fair amount of the journey.
I usually stop in Madison with which I have fallen in love. It started with stopping at the Madison Denny's on my way to Orlando (about half way from Pensacola) for coffee and a bite to eat. Now I always stop there, always. It isn't that it is that good but the ambience is lovely as are the people. Anyways, I have no words for Madison. I discovered this hidden jewel because I had to go into town on one of my trips because I needed something from a drugstore. The town starts about 3 miles off the interstate. The second I crossed the town line, I was in Florida, ca 1962.
I needed gas and saw a big shell station about a block away. So I headed to it and found myself in the center of town. On one side of me was a building so beautiful it took my breath away. It was the court house done in the Spanish revival style that was ubiquitous in Florida back then. Then a young man came up to me and asked what I wanted. It took me a minute to understand that he was an attendant and was going to pump my gas for me!! How long has it been? 20 years? I can't even remember when attendants disappeared. In any case, as I headed for the drugstore I saw a Florida I thought was gone forever. Even the CVS was straight out of the 60s. It was like time had passed Madison by completely. I think I want to retire there but I am getting to an age where I have to be cognizant of medical issues. I would be quite a long trip away from most doctors and hospitals that I might need. Still, I dream! Stupid add image to post. You have to click the snippet to see Tallahassee off on the left and Madison is equally far to the right. But you can also see that Madison is in the middle of nowhere just like I like it!

Looking back to those days I can't comprehend how far My wife at the time and I used to drive. Often just to be sight seeing. One of our favorite spots was Dauphin Island in Mobile bay. Another was Boca Chico, Park and Island near Brownsville Texas and War Eagle Lake, North of Rogers Arkansas. and then our frequent drives down to the Yucatan peninsuela in Mexico. We always planned to drive down to Belize, but never did.

That looks like a "first" pass plowing. That is what we would get after a big storm in New England. Then, after most everyone was able to get out, the plows would go back and clear the streets as completely as possible. But that may be the advantage of living in a state that depends on tourism. You never let them get stuck!

But we don't know how cold it is in your backyard! My backyard looks much like Woodrow Li's. In fact, i slid off the road which my house is on. Going a bit too fast I guess. It's not a safe road even in good weather... and luckily (or by God's mercy) I didn't slide off on one of the dangerous parts of the road. It's an isolated road... winding with lots of hills... no sidewalks... no shoulders... steep embankments... etc. Things could have been a lot worse. But after i crashed... I walked to a house that had a light on... and the guy was like an angel. He called his buddy and we got my car out of the gully. The whole time, these guys were happy with big smiles as they helped get my car on the road. They acted like it was a great big fun adventure for them. It was snowing and cold and slippery, but they were great.

Now that is a fine winter story! Do you live in Pennsylvania by any chance? I love the place but whenever I imagine winter I shudder because the whole state seems to be ignorant of the concept of flat!

Now that is a fine winter story! Do you live in Pennsylvania by any chance? I love the place but whenever I imagine winter I shudder because the whole state seems to be ignorant of the concept of flat! I live in Missouri. My wife doesn't like it here, and indeed, the state is sometimes called "Misery". I'm originally from California and a lot of people can't understand why I moved from Cali to Misery. Can't say I blame them, but I keep telling my wife that it is temporary (lol... been here 6 years so far). It depends on what God wants me to do or where to go. I can say this... no matter where you live, I have no doubt you can find great people. And I have met some great people in Missouri who will always be important friends.

Very cold since Dec 27. The Water level float in the washing machine stuck and over filled the washing machine. Had water all over the first floor. Worse part if leaked though the floor and shorted out our Internet/Phone/TV connection box. Finally got internet back today.
Just found out our temp today is -25F. Now I wish I hadn't looked at the weather.
Took this video the other day on Jan 4th. But could not upload it until now. Not much snow, but plenty of cold.

Oh wow! That is one way to get the floor mopped, I guess. I could stand being house bound if, and only if, I had internet and TV. Otherwise? I would be a true basket case. I guess you are lucky not to have lost electricity like so many others. It is cold here too and I have to let my outside water run a little tonight as the front pushes thru to prevent the pipes from bursting but that is about it. The real problem I have is that I do not have a coat. It is supposed to get down to 20 tomorrow and I have only a jacket and sweaters! I do have gloves, somewhere.

Warming up now. Supposed to be warming for a few days and even get up into the 30s by Sunday. But will drop to sub zero temps again early in the week. At least I might be able to get the car unstuck. All 4 tires are actually frozen to the ground and will not turn. Neighbor tried to pull it out with his tractor, but it wont budge.
