I believe fall has come and gone for North Dakota. Getting to be a mite-chilly here. Looks like a good chance for snow later this evening and tonight. The weather banner is live and should update about every 15 minutes. Current temp is 39F / 4C at 2:35 PM

That is pretty cold. I am waiting for a hurricane that may just stay a tropical storm. I hope so. I have a vet appointment tomorrow! And no supplies on hand. The weather banner is cool!

Copy the above as an image link and save the link. Paste the link into a post as an image. should work. I guess wunderground does not have the full banner for Calgary and only gives the F temp not the C., but the Temp should still update every 15 minutes or so.

We only got a few damp snow flurries. 200 Hundred miles south of me down in the Black Hills (Pine Ridge Reservation) they got walloped. 33 inches of snow. SOURCE

Even in Vermont, this would be early for snow. I can't imagine getting hit with 33 inches though I have lived through some impressive snowfalls in New England. One of my favorite memories is standing out in snow up to my knees at 7 a.m. waiting for the train to Boston.

Looking at a map it is a bit difficult to see just how far North the Dakotas are. You have to look at the latitude
Quebec Canada is at 53.0000
Calgary, Canada is at 51.0500
Marion ND is at 46.6072
Montreal Canada is at 45.0000
Bangor Maine is at 44.8036
Montpelier VT is at 44.2500
Rapid City SD is at 44.0760
Boston MA is at 42.3581
New York City is at 40.6700
I'm further North than Montreal, Canada. Rapid City,SD way in the southern part of SD is just about even with Montpelier VT.

not too cold here.
i hate cold. i grew up on the equator and have lived most of my life where the daily temperature in the summer pushed 100 to 115 degrees F.
right now i work outside six days on with three off, and winter is coming. my company provides insulated coveralls, but tending the machines i work on means i'll be outside in the weather for all of my 14-hour duty shift.
it better be worth the money.

Amen, I say! 14 hours of outdoor work in winter is 13 hours and 45 minutes too many!

seriously, i'm not sure how i'll manage. temperatures here in american ohio run -10 to -15 C regularly in the winter. that's nothing if the air is still, but when it's 0300 and windy then it makes a pussy out of people like me.
apparently my company sometimes switches to daylight-only operations in the winter, but i'm not sure that such is the case.
i shall find out very soon.

Actually, if you factor wind chill in, I do believe Iowa was colder than Vermont even. That is one windy place as one would expect since the eastern part is so close to Chicago. I do know that I learned very quickly how vulnerable certain parts of the body are like the skin around your nostrils and the tips of your ears. I know I could acclimate again, or so I suppose but don't want to!
True story. I had been living in New England for a good 10 years when I had to go to New Orleans one fine year at the end of June. No one warned me and I didn't bring nearly enough clothing to have fresh ones after each of the three showers I took every day to try and cool down. It was the most horrible, hot, humid, weather I have ever endured. I barely escaped with my life.
Then I had to go back to New Orleans after living in Alabama for 3 years. I couldn't believe how nice the weather was and how much I was enjoying the trip. When I heard the weather that night on the news, I realized it was the same weather that nearly killed me a decade earlier. Hot, humid and ... normal for Alabama too. I had acclimated!
I am not sure what the moral of this story is. Maybe that if you survive, you will be able to impress your grandchildren with tales of the frozen tundra. I still get gasps of horrified awe from New England friends when I talk about the heat and humidity that are a normal part of our lives.

Please take it easy driving to Fargo tomorrow! No going off the road or any nonsense like that.
North Dakota "Not for everybody" ! I just turned on my space heater and it is 53 outside. How did I ever survive Iowa? Vermont? I am now freezing from looking at that video. Lily just came running as she always does when I turn that space heater I keep here in the office on. It is very hot and I have to keep it about 2 ft away from me. She, on the other hand, goes right up to it and goes to sleep. The Maggie family craves warmth.
