Can you see what is causing this little boy such joy? Did he get a puppy for his birthday? No. He got a pair of new shoes. This is a picture of a 6 year old Austrian denizen of the Am Himmel orphanage who has just gotten the shoes from the American Red Cross. (Credit: from the photography blog, Burned Shoes) Like pretty much every other 10 year old girl on the planet, I loved horses. My mother even got me a signed copy of Walter Farley's The Black Stallion for Christmas that year. But really, can anyone resist the beauty of this black stallion (a quarter horse)? The lowly donkey has its charms. Especially the minature variety. The caption is amusing. The person who posted the picture says that this little guy chases you up the driveway until you stop and scratch his head. Works for me! The only known captive golden zebra The essence of cats...

He is gorgeous. I love Maine Coons but these days pet quality kittens go for $1000. I will stick with my long-haired tabby who is worth 42x as much!

Pepper was about 6 weeks old when we got him 5 years ago. He was about 2 years old in the picture. He forced my wife to buy him. We went into a pet shop to buy some crickets for our geckos and Pepper insisted he was coming home with us. Thought we were going to get out with only spending $2 for bugs. I just hope he has finally stopped growing

Don't say that! So much of their charm resides in the possibility that they will achieve the size of ponies! The black cat is special! Are his eyes really blue or is that a trick of the light?

That was Rusty. His eyes were really that blue. He was quite old and passed on, last year. My wife had him for at least 10 years before we met and we had been married for 5 years when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

This is Jerusalem in 1844! Needless to say, it (and the others the photographer took) are the first known photos of Jerusalem. Hah! Fooled you! But yes this is a cardinal (maybe). I can't positively identify the variety but I have seen it called a Paradise Flycatcher (not a cardinal at all). I do believe that it is a cardinal. I do, I do, I do.
Everyone loves the bold red male Cardinal. But I really like the females, too. This one is probably male and is a variety known as the desert Cardinal. This last is an example of bird leucism. Leucism is a deficency of pigment found in birds that leaves much of their feathers white. As you see here, however, they are not albinos. Actually, I think the result is quite beautiful. Here is an example of a leucistic Pileated Woodpecker Other unusual color varieties include red flamingos: Pink peacocks: and multicolored ducks:

What on earth was the "danger" in the first minute that caused it to turn black? In any case, I am glad you posted that. I am flabbergasted at that creature's ability to change,

I am flabbergasted at that creature's ability to change, In spite of their reputation octopi are very timid and spend much of their time hiding. the "Mimic Octopus" is the only one that ventures away from a hiding place. I assume the one in the video was startled by the crab. Even tho crabs are a favorite food for octopi. Another possibility it saw the diver filming it.
