Woodrow, This question is for you, on Quran 28:38 Pharaoh said to his people, I never knew any God for you except me. but the people of Egypt used to worship many Gods at that time and it was a common practice. why did Pharaoh said that?

That is quite an interesting question as Pharaoh himself was a Polytheist. But, when you consider his arrogance and him having seen the plagues fall upon Egypt and his gods unable to protect Egypt. One needs to wonder just how his mind was affected. Here he was the most powerful man on earth a living god under the protection of many gods. Yet the plagues came.This had to have affected him I believe it would be safe to say at this point he stopped believing in the gods of Egypt and saw himself as the only god. he was stating he was the only god and he is the one to be worshiped. He was like Iblis and had placed himself as being greater than Allaah(swt) I believe Pharaoh felt he was a god and the only god to be worshipped. Seeing the failure of the gods he used to worship he must have stopped believing in them when he witnessed their failure. This was his public announcement that only Pharaoh is the god to worship.
