But if the tires are frozen to the ground, don't you risk damaging them by pulling the car loose?

But if the tires are frozen to the ground, don't you risk damaging them by pulling the car loose? Yes, it is a possibility. However, the neighbor had enough sense to stop pulling when it became obvious the car was not moving. I put plenty of rock salt around the tires so with a little warmth today the ground may be more like mud and we an pull it out.

It worked the rock salt loosened the ice enough so I was able to break the tires free by shift gears back and forth between R and D.
Made it into Jamestown to buy wood pellets for the Furnace. Everybody was sold out, but I did manage to get 200 pounds of pelletized horse bedding and that is working just fine in the pellet furnace. The good part is TSC is getting a shipment of Stove pellets in by Tues. I put in an order for a ton. I'll get another ton after I get that unloaded from the pick up. I don't dare put over a ton in the pick-up as it is only rated for 3/4 of a ton. I'll need at least 4 tons to last until May. After May I shouldn't have to use the furnace again until September.

It is possible that the extra weight gives you some extra traction on snow and ice but I have to admit that I tend to be cautious about that sort of thing. Running out of fuel? Yikes! That is as bad as having your water supply contaminated a la West Virginia. It seems like the center is not holding...

Normally we would have bought about 5 tons of pellets back in August. But this year the local stores did not get any in until October and they have been scarce. As it is there are only 3 stores within driving distance One in Jamestown (40 Miles) one in Fargo (124 miles) and one in Aberdeen SD (130 miles) that carry them. But this year none stocked up very much on them. I can only carry 1 ton, I am up the creek when I run out and the stores have not restocked. We use the pellet stove as it is cheaper than propane or fuel oil. A ton of Pellets last a month and only cost $120 a ton. Propane used to cost us about $400 a month. Fuel oil is completely out of the Question, would be over $1000 a month. (But it would be delivered ) Next week the Store in Jamestown will be restocked. I'll be making trips as fast as I can unload. (Takes me 2 days to unload a ton, I'm slow) Hope I can get at least 3 tons before they run out.

How cold is my backyard? I had to thaw out the air before we could breathe it.

How cold is my backyard? I had to thaw out the air before we could breathe it. That is nothing. My living room is colder than that. I have to use an electric heater to thaw out the fire in the pellet stove.

Odder, your link sent me to a new Chrome tab; not YouTube. Well, we are in the deep freeze. It was supposed to be in the upper 60s and lower 70s by today. I feel personally aggrieved that it is cold!
